Overview
Ustav is a free mobile app for watching festival-related short videos, following festivals such as Navratri day by day, and creating festival greeting cards. Ustav does not require an account or sign-in, and does not collect your name, phone number, email address, contacts, or precise location.
Ustav is supported by ads, and uses Google Firebase for anonymous app statistics and notifications. The sections below explain exactly what that involves.
What Ustav stores on your device
- Favorites: videos you mark as favorite are saved only on your own device.
- Greeting cards you create: any card you save ("My Creations") is stored only as an image file in the app's private storage on your device.
- Your name on cards: if you enter a name to sign your cards, it is saved only on your device.
- Festival progress: which Navratri days you have "lit" (opened the app on), and reminder settings, are saved only on your device.
- Preferences: your card language (English, Hindi or Gujarati), which tutorials you've seen, and similar settings are saved only on your device.
- Unlock status: which premium card designs you've unlocked, and any active 24-hour premium pass (earned by watching an optional rewarded ad), are stored only on your device.
None of the above is sent off your device by Ustav. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
Photos and camera
If you allow it, Ustav reads the photos on your phone only to show them in its in-app photo picker, so you can place one behind a greeting card. The camera is used only when you tap "Camera" to take such a photo. Ustav only accesses images (not videos or audio), and on recent Android versions you can choose to share only selected photos.
Photos are used only to build the card on your device. Ustav never uploads, shares, or stores your photos on any server, and you can turn photo access off at any time in your phone's settings.
Content shown in the app
The video feed reads public video metadata (titles, thumbnails, channel names) and festival content (such as each Navratri day's goddess and colour) from a Firestore database. This contains no personal information about you. All videos play through YouTube's own official embedded player, streamed directly from YouTube. Ustav never downloads or stores video files.
Ustav is an independent app and is not endorsed by, sponsored by, or affiliated with YouTube or Google in any way. Watching a video is subject to YouTube's Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.
Advertising
Ustav is free and supported by ads: banner ads, an occasional full-screen ad after you save or share a card, sponsored pages in the video feed, and optional rewarded ads that you choose to watch to unlock premium card designs or relight a missed Navratri day.
Ads are served through Unity LevelPlay (ironSource), a mediation service that works with the following ad networks:

To show, measure and improve ads, and to prevent ad fraud, these partners may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address (from which an approximate location may be inferred), device model, operating system, language, and how you interact with ads. This is handled directly by those partners under their own privacy policies. Ustav does not receive or control the personal data they collect for ad serving.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, at any time in your phone's settings (Settings › Google › Ads, or Settings › Privacy › Ads, depending on your device).
App statistics and notifications (Google Firebase)
Ustav uses Firebase Analytics to understand which features are used (for example, which screens are opened, videos watched or skipped, cards created or shared, and ads shown) so the app can be improved. This uses an app-instance identifier and general device information, not your name or contact details.
Ustav uses Firebase Cloud Messaging and on-device reminders to send notifications, such as a morning reminder for each Navratri day. You can turn reminders off in the app's Settings, and notifications off in your phone's settings.
Firebase is provided by Google under the Firebase Privacy and Security terms and Google's Privacy Policy.
Data sharing and sale
Ustav does not sell your personal data. Ustav itself does not share personal data with third parties, other than the advertising data handled directly by the ad partners listed above and the app statistics processed by Google Firebase.
Children
Ustav is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
- Delete a favorite or a saved card in the app, or uninstall the app, to remove that data from your device.
- Turn off photo access, notifications, or personalised ads at any time in your phone's settings.
- Reset your advertising ID in your phone's settings to separate future ad activity from past activity.
Ustav keeps no account or cloud copy of your favorites, cards or photos, so there is nothing about them stored on our side to delete. For questions about data held by the ad partners or Google Firebase, see their privacy policies linked above, or contact us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Effective" date above will be updated. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
